Sometimes called King Sago, Sago Cycad, or Japanese Sago Palm; this species is from the gymnosperm family Cycadaceae. They are native to southern Japan. Cycads are not closely related to the true palms.
Sago Palms are extremely poisonous to animals (including humans) if ingested. Pets are at particular risk, since they find the plant tasty.
